[Advisory] Berlin13 Announcement

Dear members of the B13 Advisory Board,

thank you again for your positive feedback and valuable input which you offered generously in 2016. Since the beginning of 2017 we have been busy to fine tune the Berlin13 agenda and fill the list of speakers. Please find an updated copy attached to this mail.

In case we forgot, overlooked or misunderstood an important issue we would appreciate your feedback until:

As a next step, we intend to put the program online in the week of February 6 with as much confirmation as possible (semi-final status).

A few remarks on how we picked up your proposals and included them in our agenda:

1.     We took up the issue of economic aspects of OA.
Jeffrey MacKie-Mason agreed to deliver a talk on this issue and explain the change effects from subscription fees to financing journal articles through APCs.

2.     We invited Louise Page from PLOS and Paul Peters from OASPA to make the voice of genuine OA publishers heard.

3.     We asked for country reports from Japan, Switzerland, Australia and Germany to get an overall idea of the status quo of OA in different countries.

4.     Kai Geschuhn will spell out “the goals of OA transformation again and tell us what action is needed to move away from more traditional deals in order to reach a pay-as-you-publish-model”.

5.     We invited several speakers to present different concepts and alternative models of transformation to the audience (e.g. The OA Cooperative Model, SCOAP3, Fair Open Access principles and Linguistics in OA).

As you will notice, some speaker confirmations are still pending and not all the headings have been finalized. That said, this will give you and us the opportunity of last minute changes in case you are really troubled with decisions we took.
